Not all SMP holds up. Pigment placed too deep, the wrong color formula, or inconsistent technique can leave a result that fades unevenly, shifts in tone, or simply never looked natural. Clients who have had SMP elsewhere and are dissatisfied with their result sometimes have options — and sometimes do not.
What SMP Repair Can Address
Faded or uneven coverage — pigment that has faded at different rates across the scalp, leaving patchy or inconsistent density — can often be refreshed and evened out with additional sessions matched to the existing work.
Color shift to blue or green — a common result of black ink placed too deep in the scalp — is more complex. Laser removal to lighten the existing pigment before correction may be required. We will tell you at consultation whether correction alone is sufficient or whether pre-treatment is recommended.
Hairline correction — an unnaturally sharp, dark, or mismatched hairline — can sometimes be softened or adjusted with additional pigment work. In some cases, laser treatment to remove or lighten the existing hairline is required first.
Blotchy or over-darkened coverage — resulting from too many sessions, too much pigment depth, or the wrong needle technique — is assessed case by case. Correction is not always possible without prior laser lightening.
What We Cannot Promise
SMP repair is the most complex category of treatment we offer. The outcomes depend entirely on the quality and depth of the original work, the client's skin type, and the degree of damage. We will not take on a repair case if we cannot produce a result we can stand behind. We would rather refer you to a laser removal specialist first than make a compromised result worse.
Every repair consultation includes a candid review of your existing work, realistic outcome options, and honest guidance — even if the honest guidance is that repair is not the right first step.
